Description

An option contract giving the owner the right, but not the obligation, to sell a specified amount of an underlying security at a set price within a specified time.

A put option gives its holder the right, but not the obligation, to sell an underlying security at a predetermined price before a specified expiration date. Investors use put options to hedge against falling prices or to speculate on a decline, providing a way to limit potential losses or profit from bearish market movements.
